Generating a free QR code is only the first step. Fine-tuning the technical parameters keeps your code scannable in every situation.
1. Start with the right content type
Decide whether you need a URL, Wi-Fi login, business card or form. MyFreeQRCode lets you pick the right template so the encoded data stays consistent.
2. Balance colours and contrast
A minimum contrast ratio of 7:1 keeps your QR code readable. Stick to light backgrounds, avoid gradients and test the result in dark mode.
3. Choose the correct size for the scanning distance
Use the quick formula: scanning distance (cm) ÷ 10 = minimum QR code width. For outdoor posters scanned at 2 metres, aim for at least 20 cm.
4. Add performance tracking
Attach UTM parameters to your URLs, then monitor scans in Google Search Console and Looker Studio to identify your best-performing placements.
